BAPTIZING YOUR BABY
Congratulations on the birth of your child: we wish you and your family all of God’s blessings!
Often the Baptism of a child is an opportunity to connect or reconnect with the church community.
If you are not registered with our Parish, you may begin that process as well:
Please contact secretary@stjosephsbabylon.org by e-mail or you may phone our Parish Office at 631.669.0068, ext 100.
FAQs
When can I baptize my baby or child at St. Joseph?
Baptisms are by scheduled appointment on Sundays throughout the year (except during Lent). Baptisms are celebrated at 1:30pm on Sunday afternoons in the church.
Is there a preparation class for parents before the actual baptism ceremony?
Yes. It occurs monthly and when you register for a specific baptismal date, our Parish Office Staff member will assign you to a parents’ class; godparents are welcome, but not required to attend.
What if I have baptized another child at St. Joseph Parish during the last three years?
Please tell our Parish Office Staff member, who will direct you accordingly.
What if my baby was baptized in the hospital under emergency conditions: what do I do?
Just inform our Parish Office Staff member when registering: your baby will not be baptized again, but will celebrate the baptismal anointings and the other ceremonies with other babies being baptized.
Can a Jewish or Muslim or another non-baptized person be a godparent for a Catholic baptism?
No. Each child needs at least one godparent who is a baptized Roman Catholic who has also already received Communion and Confirmation. Further, if a family desires two godparents for their child: one must be male and the other female; in addition, one must be a baptized Roman Catholic, and the other may be a Christian witness, who is a baptized member of a Christian church.
If you have further questions, please speak with a Parish Office Staff member.
