FAQs
When can I baptize my baby or child at St. Joseph?
Baptisms are by scheduled appointment on Sundays and Saturdays throughout the year.
We celebrate our Baptisms each Sunday at 1:45pm in the Church and on Saturdays at 1:00pm in the Church.
Is there a preparation class for parents before the actual baptism ceremony?
Yes. The person who scheduled your child's Baptism will also discuss a date for a parents' session because the Church wishes to help parents see the big connection: Baptism connects us - for life - to a worldwide family that gives us privileges and responsibilites. In the Rite of Baptism we celebrate the reality of being immersed in God's life through: The Community, The Signing of the Cross, Anointing with Chrism (a perfumed oil), Water, The White Baptismal Garment, and the Lighted Baptismal Candle.
What if my baby was baptized in the hospital under emergency conditions: what do I do?
Just inform our Parish Office Staff member when
Can a Jewish or Muslim or non-baptized person be a godparent for a Catholic baptism?
No. Each child needs at least one godparent who is a baptized Roman Catholic who has also already received Communion and Confirmation. Further, if a family desires two godparents for their child: one must be male and the other female; in addition, one must be a baptized Roman Catholic, and the other may be a Christian witness, who is a baptized member of a Christian church.
